Minutes of AGM Meeting held at Hippings Vale Community Centre

11th January 2011

The minutes of the previous AGM were read and accepted as a true record. 11 members were present and apologies accepted.

Ray Garret chaired the meeting in the absence of Ray Couldwell and presented:

1.      The Treasurers report

2.      The secretary’s report

An election of officers took place and the roles will be: -

Chairman & Show manager                              Ray Couldwell

Treasurer                                                          Steve Whiteside

Secretary & Web Coordinator                          Pauline Smith

Raffle Organiser                                               Phil Reily

Catering & Publicity events coordinator          Ray Garette

It was agreed that Ray G carry on as Catering and events organiser and the group offered to share the catering duties as it looks as though we are going to have a busy year again.

It was agreed that the annual subscription remains at £20 per year, as we do not charge extra for the meetings when we have speakers and as the clubs finances are quite healthy at the moment there is no reason to increase the subscriptions.

The spring show at Read Garden Centre was very successful, the initial outlay was quite expensive for the club as we have had to buy drapes and backgrounds but we now have these for future use. n. We will be having a Spring Exhibition at Shackeltons Garden Centre in Clitheroe on the 7/8th May where the public will vote for the tree they like best for the Don Daglish trophy.

The summer show at Barton Grange was very well received and we are repeating this in August for our Summer Show on the 6/7th August.

We have changed the meeting dates to the second Tuesday of the month, this will allow us access to the large room when we need it for workshops and speakers so we are not disturbed by the dog training which can be very noisy.

The programme for the year is complete with two very good speakers in John Armitage and Corin Tomlinson; we also have the garden visit in July to Wrea Green.

It was decided to change the date of the AGM to the December meeting before we have our Xmas pie & peas so there will be more members present and we will be able to prepare the programme for the next year earlier.

The extra informal meetings have proved quite successful so we have arranged four more over the year: -

Monday 21st Feb

Monday 23rd May

Monday 22nd August

Monday 21st Nov

These are informal meetings where trees can be worked on and problems and ideas can put forward and also arrangements discussed for the Shackleton and Barton Grange shows.

The society would like to thank the members for all their hard work over the past twelve months and for their regular attendance at the meetings. It looks as though we are going to have a very busy year again let’s hope it will be as successful as last year.
